The Annex Joins G's Tiki Bar....
The Annex opened in 2013 as an addition to G’s Tiki Bar. The room started as a one car attached garage. A garage that could hold a car in 1939 struggled with an SUV in 2013. The garage became a collection all for everything but a vehicle.
The success of G’s Tiki Bar played well into a place to continue the party in the winter. After much conversation it was decided to turn the garage into a party room for family and friends. Construction began after the first of the year and like so many of the projects you watch on HGTV the garage project was no different as there were plenty of “oh, shit” moments. An architect was called in to determine how to make it possible to open the ceiling and still have enough support to hold the roof. Consideration had to be given to the additional weight of a winter’s snow. Beams were added which were functional but also added some atmosphere. Insulation, dry wall, corrugated metal paneling, cabinets, countertops, paint, carpet and by April the project was complete.
Opening Nite was April 20, 2013 with friends and family joining us to celebrate an additional place to spend time together, watch sporting events and solve the world’s problems. Since opening there have been many “Firsts.” The first official party, a Chili Cook-off, watching the World Series, Iowa football games, Kansas City Chiefs football games and Thanksgiving followed by Christmas.
As with most additions The Annex found its was to being the place for all family functions. Th original bar tables and bar stools were replaced by a countertop high table that would expand to seat 12. Bar stools were replaced with comfortable countertop high chairs and the original counter made for an excellent buffet line.
The Annex has been a great addition to G’s Tiki Bar and provides a great place for overflow especially in warmer weather as the room is air conditioned. Often referred to as the “above ground man cave” sports can be watched on one of three TVs.
